Ospreys usually have a number of eating locations, specific spots where they will carry their catch to consume it. Of these the easiest to find is the nests. They will use the nests for this even when they are not nesting. As they are sloppy eaters and as some of the larger parts of fish are to hard for them they invariably drop them into the water.
Gators, while not all that smart in general are at least smart enough to remember the spots where food seems to rain from the sky on a regular basis. This being so, knowing where the nests, and if you can identify during a scouting trip other osprey eating locations, are can be of use. This can be even more so if you try bait. Though I will admit that even at this point in life I have no patience for it.......and DO NOT want my boat smelling like the nasty stuff!
