I have a HITACHI SBW100 Soundbar plugged into my 50” Zenith Z50PJ240 through a Gefen TV RCA to Digital Optical converter. Since I ditched cable the soundbar hasn’t worked. If tried all kinds of things not suspecting the cable missing then last weekend it dawned on me it stop working after I went to the antenna. (yes I hardly ever watch TV so this wasn’t on my high priority to fix) So last weekend I took the soundbar to my brothers house (he has the same TV as I) and plugged it into his TV with cable and it work. My question is Why? I thought Digital Optical output was from the TV not cable?

Been there I had to do that so it would reconize the antenna Thanks.
I did notice this disclaimer on your converter. Note: This device accepts 2-channel digital audio only. Dolby 5.1 and other multichannel formats are not compatible.

BUT why not remove the gefen and just plug the Stereo RCA cables from the tvs or tuners output right into the sound bar. Why process the sound more. Why convert the signal to digital when the sound bar has to convert it back to analog anyway.
