  I find myself using Shimano flat side or Williamson benthos jigs the most. Lately I have been using the luminous painted ones most.

  I like the Williamsons - both the benthos and the abyss. Shimano's are nice, but too expensive for my tastes when the kings are in. Have tried a few other less known brands that just didn't produce like the Williamsons do for me.

  lets use a face of a clock for reference... regular jigging is 6 and 12 repeated over and over... why not try 6 and 8 or 6 and 9... or go the other way 6 and 2 or 6 and 3.. that will give u a different action on some jiggs as for the flat side jigg they already have flutter action so change up speed and the action will slightly change.. i got hits working it fast, slow, no jigging just retrieval and just suspended off the bottom.. really no right or wrong way to jigg. as for color or style thats really up to u... so many different jiggs on the market clamming to be the best.. try out different ones and see what works for u... I'm currently trying out a new brand called braid, they sent me some free rings to try out.. its a figure 8 and so far its awesome... hope this helps....

  Pottymouth is right, there are many ways to work a jig. What works one day will not work the the next time out. Try working it fast and if you dont get hit try a little slower. Keep trying and the fish will let you know when you get it right. Try rippen the jig up 20 feet off the bottom and STOP the jig and count to 10 then rip it up again. Many times the fish will hit the stoped jig before you can rip it up again.

  In my view there are only 3 things important to vertical jigging: 1. A rod designed for jigging, 2. A high speed reel with a good drag system and 3. Braided line. Everything else is secondary. Like others already wrote, the type of jig and retrieve is just personal preference and should be altered if not producing that particular day. I caught quality fish on expensive butterflies as well as flea market knock offs. I also had strikes from ripping them to the top to just having the jig suspend in the middle water column while grabbing a quick drink. Good luck.

  I'm still getting into the sport of V-jigging and already enjoying it even when I don't catch many fish. It's so much more active and less boring than dead-sticking a bait and waiting.
  
  I definitely agree with trying different styles. Last time I tried it, I caught a snapper just yo-yoing it off the bottom. Then switched to rip-hopping it all the way back up and caught a bonito. A few drops later my buddy got tangled up on something so I started to straight reel it up as fast as possible to just get it in and help him out, halfway up WHACK! fish on!
  
  Definitely a good workout, when I can afford it, I'm going to get a lefty conventional reel to match the one I have already and be able to switch arms when I get tired.

  I have been looking around online for some unique jigs not from around here. Just to try and throw them something they have never seen before. Jigging is awesome fun. Nothing beats rippin a jig off the bottom and hookin up. I have been looking around online for different types and styles of jigging and have seen some promising jigs I would like to try. Believe it or not Africa had some really good jigs. I guess jigging is getting huge off the coast and have a different selection then from here. Gonna go off Delray prob friday morning due to empending bad weather ahead. Can't wait to try out some of the new stuff. Ocean has been flat as glass the last couple of days. So hopefully this week will snap the cold spell by allowing to catch a buttload of fish. Will hopefully have my phone on me and will be able to grab some pics. Maybe this week i'll have my buddy take some pics of me holding the huge fish. Till then Br.

  I don't remember the brand, but Atlantic tackle and maybe a few others now started carrying some out of central FL for $6. Not the highest quality, but if you need to stock up for little $$

  My choice is definitely the benthos out of the easily obtainable jigs. My favorite by far is the holographic darter jig from bomber.

  CrstyCptSWitherspoon watch out for those jiggs they look exactly like some i picked up on ebay ... cheap crap... bad action, really bad hardware hooks seem to rust as soon as they touch salt... still have some new that i probably never use....

  Thanks for the warning. I ordered a set of 6 that will be here today. Don't really have the right rod/reel to use them but I might try in under 100 feet to see what happens on a spinning rod. Some people posted that they worked good but not sure how long they'll last. I'll try to use them for a while and let you know how it goes.
