I decided to try using some snapper tactics I learned from jewfish7 at a public reef in North Pinellas in about 40'. Went out with guy from work (Patrick) last Saturday morning before the holiday weekend crowds got too heavy. We didn't find any snapper, but managed to land a couple of hogfish, which was pretty cool.

Other than that, we got a bunch of grunts and short red grouper, including two almost legal @ 19". We also had a blue runner get mauled by a king while slow trolling across the area, looking for good bottom. The hogs were definitely the highlight of the day for us. Some friends in another boat had similar action, (only one short hogfish though), and also had a big king up to the boat on light mono leader. It ended up throwing the hook next to the boat. Pretty surprising that it didn't cut the leader.
