Question about serial numbers on a hull

SkoochSkooch Posts: 40 Greenhorn
Have a seventies model fiberglass hull and can not locate the serial number. Have tried the manufacturer and they could not help as the company changed hands several times and records where lost ( not transfered to computer) have looked on both starboard and port sides of the transom below the gunnel rail. No plate no stamp. Any one know of any other places the serial might be stamped into the hull that far back?

33 CFR 181.23 is the regulation stating where they should be located.

The Hull Identification Number (HIN) should be located on the starboard side on the transom. All vessel built during 1972 and newer are required to have the numbers located on the transom and they might be located somewhere else on the vessel as well to help recover a stolen vessel. If you can't find them chances are the boat was redone and they were covered. Good luck on your hunt for them.
