SaltydawgSaltydawg Posts: 1,293 Officer
Guys I am fishing in the George Povermo fishing tournament in a couple of months on my boat and am putting together a checklist of things I need to make sure I have since I have always gone on someone elses boat. What am I missing?

Fill boat fuel
Check Oil
Check the boat plug is installed
Make sure batteries are completely charged
have ropes and bumpers
have food and drinks
Check Nav lights
Check Boat Vitals Voltage >13.7 when running, Oil Pressure 40-70, Boat Temp 150 deg.
Have spare fuel filters
Have spare belt for engine
Have spare hydraulic hoses
Have quarantine Flag
Have passport
Have coffin box cooler on boat
Have the all coolers filled with ice
Have EPRIB
Have fishing license
Patch
Net for bait
Gaff
All Rods Rigged
All tackle on boat (Lures)
Leader on boat
cutting board on boat
Bait live and frozen

Thanks for the help.

Good start, and with so much time before you go, you'll have time to fine tune what you need. Like exactly what rods and how much to bring for food and drinks. The one thing I've experienced is that captain and crew usually bring too much when it comes to food, drinks and tackle. Every unused rod, lure, soda or beer adds unnecessary weight and eats into your fuel efficiency. Also, I tend to bring too much bait, causing constant work to keep it fresh...only to bring it home again. But, if you've got a big boat weight and space isn't so much an issue.

    Good luck.

It's always handy to have a crewmember standing by with a boat hook around the docks. I have the Shurehold kind where the same, 4-8' pole can be the boat hook, mop, brush, fish net and even a gaff if I need one.

This thread "reminds" me that I have a long, upcoming trip of my own that I need to start prepping for! :willynilly
