Savanna Preserve fishing?

Went to check out the savanna preserve the other day and looks like good bass territory, and was wondering if any one has fished this area and if you guys had any success? Also was wondering if there is a boat ramp there to launch a small 12' Jon boat. Any info appreciated thnx

I fished it many years ago ( late 80's-1990's)...... We used a small aluminum boat and trolling motor.
It was a good bass fishery...not alot of big ones but plenty of small-medium

About 25 years ago I fished it regularly with good luck, there was a ramp at the park off Midway Road in Ft Pierce, east of US1. I just looked at Google Maps and the ramp still seems to be there.

I grew up in Ft. Pierce and fished and duck hunted the Savannas long before (56-60s) preserve status. It was big bass country then and probably now too. Live shiners and bluegills were the best baits. Duck hunting was fantastic. With a small skiff you could fish from the water plant just north of Edwards Rd all the way to Jensen Beach and the only haulouts were at Midway and Walton Rds. We lived just off US1 north of Edwards Rd and had a short bike ride to the Savannas. Probably not there any longer but there was an old crop duster airport on the East side of US1 at Edwards Rd. A dirt road cut back through the woods to the Savanna where there were a bunch of small lakes and open water areas. Great fishing and hunting.

Do a lot of people fish there? Is it crowded on weekends?

I go there from time to time, fishing from the bank, walking the shoreline, south of Walton Road on the east side.. Caught lots of bass, but only one large one around 5 lbs. Believe it or not I also caught quite a few pickeral, which was a surprise. Almost never see anybody else there.

I don't put much stock in it, but my girlfriend won't go back there with me. She says she gets spooked by bad vibes there, like something evil happened there. It does not stop me, I still go.
