Sunset Reds

It’s the time of the year when I like to do a sunset trip. Topwater is preferred, but not always the way to go. As was the case the last couple of nights. We fished the afternoon high tide on a protected shoreline and the water was mirror smooth and clean. Mullet everywhere with the occasional Redfish tail. The bite would turn on about 30 minutes before the top of the tide and last until sunset. Stick Shadd, spoon, and soft plastics were the ticket. Can wait for the time change so I can fish longer.

Location: Protected shoreline on Sarasota Bay
Day(s): Thursday 3/1/2012 and Friday 3/2/2012
Partner(s): Nate Austin
Time: 4:30 PM to dark
Tide: High incoming to top of tide
Water Temp: 80, yes 80 at the beginning of March
Conditions: Sunny and warm
Lures: Spoons, soft plastics, Sebile Stick Shadd

I've seen first hand how they catch fish. But I'm still learning how to work them. No doubt they will be in my box from now on.

Chuck, you might want to change that to "Anglers" :rotflmao We don't want your wife getting any ideas!

Good report! Let's get out there again!

What happens on the boat, stays on the boat. And when the fish aren't biting, well we have time to kill.

I love my new Ballistic reel and have caught some nice fish with it already. It is very smooth, but it feels a little stiffer than my Daiwa TDA reels. I'm a bit of a reel geek and do my own reel service. So I opened it up to check it out. The Ballistic has some sealed bearings and additional water barriers in it and I believe that makes it feel stiffer. Over time I can see myself with more of these reels.

My Ballistic 3000 feels much lighter than the TDA 3000's and is even lighter than my TDA 2500's.
