Can anybody help me out on what areas to target when it is low tide? There seems to be no water around the mangroves so do I drift grass flats or fish channels or...
I'm not a Red-Fish guru, but I can tell you how I find them. I use my trolling motor and ease over the flats. Pay special attention to sandy pot-holes and prop-scars. They might be a little hard to find after this latest cold front, but if the temps get into the upper 70 or low 80 they will be back on the shallow flats.
When the water is cold and or no water on the flats, they don't have much of a choice but to be in the deeper channels and drop-offs.
Negative lows will congregate the reds into sandholes, and channel edges right off the flats. A gulp in new penny or natural on a 1/4th oz jighead drug through the sand holes, and along channel edges should produce. Lice shrimpo are an option as well on jighead or freelined. he sheepshead will be in the same areas and will eat up the live shrimp, along with the occasional flounder.
