RANT - Jupiter Motor Theft at Public Storage

Just an FYI for those who may be looking for a place to store their boat in Jupiter. The Public Storage facility in Jupiter @ military trail and indiantown rd has had an outbreak of motors being snatched off the back of the boats stored there.

I went in to the front office to try getting more info regarding the theft(s) and what they are planning to do in order to beef up security and was treated like ****. It doesn't sound like they're planning on doing anything and there is much improvement to be made. I don't feel comfortable listing the flaws here but there are many improvements that could be made.

What are some ideas to cut down on this? I hear everyday of someone around here getting something stolen.

Well, if you're paying for "secure storage" then it should be secure. If at some point someone exploited a security vulnerability at your location then you should take action to improve your security to prevent the same thing from happening again. If you don't then you're just asking to get hit again. Oh, and why is it you have to live in BFE to find a place w/o an HOA.

By definition of stages, the state dept., FBI and the professional security association known as ASIS all recommend three basic methods to secure any property. Stage 1 - Define property line with fence or other similar deterrent. Stage 2 - Provide lighting so that any activity is easily discovered with the human eye. Stage 3 - use electronics to notify of intrusion, acquire images of activity and actively remove by force.

A simple motion detector to turn your lights on your boat with a camera that records on an SD card would help you in the event someone tried to steal your stuff!

Plenty of videos of boat thefts in broad daylight. They don't give a crap anymore.

BTW, I kept a boat there for a few years(inboard). It's what a mile or 2 from the police station on the same road.

If it started happening just recently I would think it might be a new employee. If it is secured storage, no matter what the contract says, I would consult a lawyer.Just because a contract states that they are not responsible for theft or damage does not mean they are not. Happened to me, after complaining for a week they said they were not responsible and said so on the contract. Had a lawyer send them a letter, within 3 days the issue was resolved to my satisfaction!

WHen I was there frequently the fence in the back was cut and it backed up to a small industrial park area with dirt bags working on broken *** cars.
Maybe they're coming in the front. All it takes is about $80 + the extra for a 24hr code and you have full access without cutting the fence. But it looks like that construction crap to the SE could just drop people/tools with a crane and pick 'em up.

If you are looking for a safe place to store your boat, ask your storage facility first what type of security they have in effect. Most of these places don't care about your property and make you sign a waiver that releases them of any responsibilities. Thats why they make sure you have insurance on your boat before you park it there. My company specializes in remote cctv monitoring, basically we monitor locations such as boat storage facilities all night from my office in Boca and during the day when they are closed and call the police immediately when an intruder is detected.

It's not just storage facilities, a guy I work with his boat stripped in his fenced in back yard, cops told him 14 boats were hit in the Stuart area when his was hit.
