  Paid my wife's loan too. She borrowed for nursing school. She already had a bachelors from the Philippines but when she got here her family tried to convince her to be a nurse. She ended up not liking nursing and quit it. When I met her she still had an outstanding balance and it took us a while to pay it off. I was still recovering financially from an earlier divorce at the time. It's only money but do we still have to use tax dollars to pay people who took loans and quit like my wife did? It was all for nothing. I know life isn't always fair but I am 100% against this.

  Stupid idea, you can tell that the ignorant masses came up with a way to have plumbers and carpenters pay for bad choices of people that make less than 125k single or 250k married.
      Many people decided they couldn’t afford college but would have appreciated it more, a better idea would have been to use that money for people that want to go and make better choices.
       It’s still dumb, but not as stupid as the one they are pushing.

  Keller - my wife's was close to 50k at one time before we met. Bachelors and Masters, Not Liberal arts. 
  Mental Health Field.  Pay was pretty poor until she could get a state license. Which takes a couple of years of practical hands on work experience and additional course work above a Masters.  Even with the state license, pay was only fair in the public sector.  In 2015 she finally went private sector, less stress and much better money. 
  
  Conchy - I was coming off a divorce as well when I met my wife. An expensive divorce.

  Paying off debt that people voluntarily took on doesn’t fix the real issue. Universities are too expensive. Universities should be barred from offering garbage degrees. Tenure should be outlawed. Required credits to get a degree shouldn’t include dozens of nonsense electives. That’s just a start

   It gives permission to universities to raise their tuition, probably by about 10k and up.
