Nikon finally close to an announcement of FX format bodies

Several reports of the D800 and D4 are in the blog space. Consistent reports of their pending announcement in January at the PMA Show on the weekend of the 12/13/14th.

I believe some things are still miss reported, like the pixel count of the D800, at 36 MPIX. Can that be right? That is three times the D700.

Also the top of the mark action machine, the D4 with a 16 MPIX sensor is being reported. This makes much more sense.

Note the crazy burst capture rate on the D4.

Both cameras are reported to have better video capabilities. We will see.

Price you ask? This will fit in the if you have to ask you can't afford it category. Rumors say the D800 will be just shy of $4k !! (I doubt it because that is too much jump from the current D700 price). The D4 is to be $6,300-ish, again a far departure from the D3s pricing.

I think Nikon will need to get these cameras into the market space soon. The Olympics are coming and the pros will need a few months to practice and set up their now camera bodies.

I do hope they hit the market soon because I want a D700 which will become more affordable once the D800 shows in the market space.

Yep, that's been the rumor for quite a while. I belive the pixel count on the D800 somehow. Heck with Sony's 24 mp APS-C crop, no reason a Full Frame can't get up there fairly easily. I'm hearing the D4 will be at 18 mpxl though, but who knows.

I've even heard one rumor that the D800 will have modular sensors with and without AA filter on the same camera. Again, who knows. We've been expecting something since last August and either it was totally made up or the Earthquake and Flood slowed it all down.

If the D800 comes in closer to $4000, I think there will be another FX body next year to fill the gap of the D300s with no DX higher than the D7000. That would put all the entry level models from the D3100 to the D7000 all with 4 numerics after the D. The D3100 would be the base and the D7000 the most enthusiast model. Then some new entry level FX at $2000 or a little less, then the D800 at $4000 then the D4 at around $7000.

At $4000 or less, I'm an early player on any D800 with similar to the above specs as long as they leave all the training wheels off of it. I mean no scene modes of any kind and no green Auto mode of any kind. I want ISO as an exterior button and how many focus points as an exterior control. At least the exterior controls of the D700 or more. No modes. LOL None. No mountain or flower icon. heheheh.. No fireworks mode. That stuff just gets in the way. I also don't care about Expeed because I don't use the Jpeg engine. Just make it like the D700 or D3 which are built like Abrams Tanks.

Like I say, it's speculation but fun. Hope it's finally true this time.
