Beach North of Matanzas

RevJoeyFitzRevJoeyFitz Posts: 212 Deckhand
Beautiful morning on the beach. Tried a new spot just north of Matanzas inlet. Took one of my college students out. Fished a rip for a while. Water was a little dirty. Got a 5 rod spread out amongst a lot of surfers, most of whom were cool. Got a nice 15” whiting off of shrimp. Got several cats. Several short whiting, and a couple more keepers. Then my student reeled in this guy…

Nice little palometta. Too short, but still a cool catch. Bite got really slow around 10:30. So, we started moving north up the beach to try and find some more action.

Got all the way up to the first set of condos spreading out baits in the trough close, mid and far. Found a spot where we were getting constant action getting 2 or 3 more good whiting, more cats and about 7 or 8 short pomps.

Then, the a life guard told us we had to move further south because they wanted for people to be able to swim. There was literally no one in the water 😠 Still, we moved about 50 yds with no action. So I just started walking back to casting range of the original spot and caught some more including a decent sized ray 😆

All in all, ended with enough for dinner.
Kids wanted fish sandwiches. So I fried them crispy with a home made sauce. They said it was the best fish meal I’ve made. So win!
