  heard the same earlier this week about 5-10 miles off bayport and new samples show the bloom moving north, just south offshore of Chaz all the way down to Anclote, everything south of there has been wiped out by three months of it.  Grasses are browned.
  Today map shows Bayport with high/bloom conc.
  Takes roughly ten years to recover. Remember the last bloom up here...still recovering and some places with heavier population have not recovered.  
  Good thing east winds prevail the next week or it would be inshore to.
  Could really use a higher flow rate of that fresh spring water from Chaz and Homossassa that SWFWMD doled out.

  plenty of freshwater flowing right now, all the flag ponds and swamps are full from rain.

  I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.

  i realize rain was plenty, was referring to spring flows.  Runoff and drainage was not was  meant. I believe that untainted springwater would be better than runoff.  Remember clean springwater and how it supported a diverse plant life? not just algal slime on rock logs and bottom -  a result of the glorious phosphate industry.
  
  Current and previous admin in Tallahassee and people who vote them in allowed and increased the constant barrage on our waters and giving permits to take from aquifer (and then give permit to pump wastewater/sewage and waste material as in that from Piney Point. It will come back out of aquifer eventually and outta the springs. if less people stood by and pointed fingers and said how good a job they r doing maybe we could get past some of these issues. Perhaps one day folks like you would look into their mirrors and realize how they have helped facilitate and elect such leaders that are part of the degradation of our waters, fresh and salt.
  
  Some regulations are good.  Clean water and clean air and green trees should not be political. I like to breathe clean air when i fish or hunt. I enjoy trees, the forests and the oxygen produced, and who does not want clean water...???

  you seen to have a hard on for mining industry, how about a hard on for Disney and the sh ithole called Orlando for the plight of the Glades or do just point a point a finger at the farmers in the EAA like the rest of the uninformed masses?

  I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.

  The "Rat" (ask and read Carl Hiaasen) has caused many problems. Way too many problems as you stated.

  we are working on the problems, but to say that the current admin in Florida does not care is totally wrong. They are making a lot of progress on these problems and standing up to big business on a regular basis.
  
  The red tide we have up here is hardly related to spring flow or pollution in this part of the state.

  The influx of people is one thing we cant do much about. A change of how and where mining is done is needed as badly as determining how many and where the new developments go. FWMD's and DEP seem to be at the root of all these issues.  They answer to the top in Tallahassee.  Rick Scott did a real number. DeSantis did come in with good policies and some good new people. However, he did shake things up near enough. Companies such as Mosaic continue to be able essentially strip mine to get what they want, even if its in environmentally sensitive areas. Nestle gets spring water. Disney, well they ruined FL in more ways than one.
  
  
  Agreed about the red tide tide moving up here not related to our conditions. But it will feed on whatever available bl-gr algal blooms are available as a result of ever increasing polluted runoff and decreasing waterflow (saltwater intrusion is another issue unto itself). lets watch n see if the bloom increases or dissipates. If it increases, well WE've contributed. if it dissipates, then our fresh water and estuaries will have shown they are doing well.
  
  A1 - agreed the , the horse is outta the barn.  and essentially there's no way out for us, but if change is not made future generations will not experience many of the treasures we have been afforded here - on the water or in the woods.

  Saw this article on the internet today. Looks interesting and still lots of unanswered questions but at least its something. Of course prevention is the best method so it would be nice if they came down on the things that are causing it.

  Yes, a giant filter in the sky to catch the Saharan dust. lol
  Small A-bomb over Orlando, bulldoze the Villages and fence off the state line to start.
  
  Then a special tax for everyone left in the stae to pay for aging infastructure upgrades (i.e. old sewer lines, septic tanks, treatment plants etc.)
  
  It won't be cheap and some will lose their homes because they can't afford the special tax but that's what it will take..

  yes, based on the amount of impervious surface on your property, 
  the average is aprox $50, Jeza Pete the amount of griping on FB about it.
