Fishing inside 40 miles

DrLouDrLou JacksonvillePosts: 44 Deckhand
Is anyone  having luck bottom fishing inside 40 miles? I get occasional keeper beeliners or rarely a keeper Black Sea bass or triggers but mostly grunts, and red snapper with plenty of sharks. I do fine at 50-60 miles but that's a full day trip and exhausting in summer weather.

I've found the same thing. We do get some kings and an occasional cobia too.

Red snapper have eaten everything else inside of 40 miles.

Finding the same thing every time I go out.  Add the requirement to fill the box after making those long runs and a day offshore starts to feel like job.  I was down in Stuart, Fort Pierce, Sebastian and Canaveral this weekend to look at some boats and hearing guys down there talk about the shorter runs to good fishing really makes me consider moving slightly south.  Even Canaveral has the stream at 30 miles.
