  Fort Island Trail Ramp. Stay in the channel until you have cleared Marker One. It's an area that's tough at first even for a seasoned boater and I wouldn't recommend it to a new boater. Hire a good local captain, if you can, and ask them to teach you about navigating on the way out and back in.

  Only one spot to really worry about heading to scallop area.. Gomez rocks. Look for it on a chart and stay to either side. It's a couple miles from 1-A marker.

  Stay in the CR river channel, watch for the gravel bar straight out of 1/2, proceed to the scallop rack and beyond.  Follow the pack to the scalloping grounds. You'll be ok, but keep the number for Sea Tow in your phone.

  
  

  Stay in the channel while in the river. follow the rules while under way, keep right in the river, but by all means...stay between the channel markers!! Keep an eye out for manatees at all times...they're everywhere all year!

  Which ramp and route will give me the safest way to scalloping ground? Should I put in a plantation and take the river out, then just go slow and stay in the channel?

  How early do I need to get to the first island trail ramp to get a parking spot? Is 7am good or should I shoot for 6:30am?

  Put in at Fort Island Trail at 6:30 this morning with no issues and got a front row parking spot. Has no issues navigating the channel. The whole family had a blast. We didn’t limit our. Ended up with 3 gallons of scallops. We’re happy with that for some first timers.

  I did mark the track. We were planning on going to the spring afterward, but we were too tired. Definitely not cocky, I was nervous the whole way out and the whole way back and I was following my track going back in. I imagine I’ll be nervous the next time too.
