Any Sanibel Fishing Reports??

Good Day Folks,

I will be heading to Sanibel this Saturday. I love to fish along the beaches and try to show my nephews and nieces as much as I can about the sport.

In the past I have caught snook, redfish, mackerel, and small blacktips off of the beach. Has anyone had any luck fishing there lately? Here are some pics from the past. Thanks in advance!!!

WOW, paddleboards have sure gotten complicated haven't they?
Have you been out to the Ding?  Perfect place for a board.

North of you, but the snook have been very thick off the Sarasota and Venice beaches. I'd imagine the same is true down there, so long as red tide isn't in the picture. Good sight fishing in the first submerged washout in the early morning, but had better luck on the bigger ones in the evening during the start of a big incoming tide.
Paddle faster, I hear banjo music.

Redfish off the beach? Wow, I've fished the beach down there every summer for 10 years and never seen one.

My family has been coming every summer for about 40 years. Redfish are definitely less common in my experience, but I have caught a few around the pier on pinfish.

I want to find a reliable source of live bait for the beach (besides shrimp). I met an older gentleman last year who I believe said he ran a pinfish trap that he checked each morning. I don't know where he dropped it, but if I have to go to such lengths, I will. He was doing quite well on snook in the mornings.

You can buy pinfish at the local bait shops for roughly $1pc. My favorite snook bait

Learn to throw a small 6ft or so cast net. The snook are in there to eat something.

Catch so whiting and fish with them. All of my 40” plus snook have been caught on whiting.
