Just wondering if Its ok to have mono top shot on my 30w and troll planers? Any downsides? Is it gonna have any disadvantages/advantages compared to straight braid?

We were trolling planers long before braid was even thought about

Jack is right, planers have been around for a lot longer than modern braided lines and many of us have lots of miles trolling planers on mono.  But there are a couple of issues to think about.  Your planers will run deeper with braid and shallower with mono.  The amount of difference will depend on the planer sizes and line weights.  And there's another thing, mono is a lot more stretchy than braid.  When you're trying to retrieve a non-tripped planer without stopping the boat whoever is on the rod needs to be extra careful to not be pumping hard when the planer nears the surface.  I have seen them unexpectedly break the surface and end up on the flybridge.  Dangerous.

I fish out of Hillsboro inlet, if I use mono, what two size planers do you recommend?

I fish a #8 on mono out of FPI, pull it on a Tiagra 50.  A #6 and #8 are the same size just difference in the weight.  So perhaps a #8 and a #4.

If you're going to pull #6 or #8 planers, make sure your rod can handle being bent hard for hours at a time.  Some of the cheaper rods or different materials really don't like that kind of treatment.  Big planers put a lot of strain on a rod.
