In Hawaii checking out volcanos and drinking beer on the patio.  Anyone have any plans???

Jump in hole, swim out to ocean....Not me. Sport fishing right off the cliffs.

And a skydive for the wifey on the north coast. Hawaii...check.  Jump #53 for her

Hawaii.  First time ever for both of us to the islands. Staying in a condo just south of kona.

Flight was long. Wife is an FA for delta and she has positive space passes. AVL to ATL to LAX to kona. Total trip took 20 hours. Travel is really picking up. She's on leave till sept but im guessing will be called back by june at this pace.

Bride and I are headed somewhere on the Ala- Florida coast in the next few weeks for a much needed break.  Hoping to catch it right for some pompano fillets.

Not sure about a vacation but we're headed to the Palm City in July for my Mom's 90th bday party. Headed to Hilton Head for my nephews wedding in October.

Probably take a long weekend and head to Gatlinburg somewhere in the summer.

Hawaii is on my list, to both surf and fish. We just got back from a few days in Islamorada for our 10th anniversary, which is also where we got married. Good food, drinks and fishing plus we both needed a break from work. Keys were wide open and packed to the gills like a pandemic didn’t exist.

Nice trip BB and congrats at your brave wife ;)

Here arranging a vacation plan it's like pick a lottery ticket. At the moment we can't leave our own town except justified reasons (and vacation it isn't a justified reason).
Then I guess the vaccine passport will be enforced mandatory (not by law, but as sneaky constraint) so probably my vacation life, except very close destinations, is over. At least until they have achieved all their goals and the psychodrama perhaps will finish.

Cool. It's a great place. If you can get to Kauai for a day trip, do so.

The Cedar Arts festival is the weekend.  Town will be very crowded until late afternoon on Sunday and boat trailer parking will be next to zero this weekend unless you have access to private property.

We’re still discussing our options. Have a beach house rented for a week in June. Possibly a wedding affair as well...

How often you guys get a vacation?
I mean, here in Italy a yearly summer vacations (two weeks generally) are pretty common as a week/ten days during Christmas time. What about you?

i changed jobs in 2019 and most companies won't give you a week until you have worked there for a year so i was planning a vacation in 2020 but then my father in law died, and then my wife's cousin so rather than take time off i had to cash out the vacation, i used the money to replace my home's air conditioner so that was nice but i'm beyond burned out at this point.    I have 2 weeks paid this year, but i had to use a week when my mother in law died  a few weeks ago so there goes that week.   I've got the week scheduled for June looking forward to it.

and no, in the states, 2 weeks plus 10 days off during the holidays is not common at all.  you normally get 10 PTO days per year in my line of work if you're lucky and that includes sick days.

currently 4 weeks.  I take 1 week in spring, 1 week in summer, 1 week in fall and 1 week over xmas.  Next year I get my 5th week of vacation.
This is like Italy. Employees get 4/5 weeks as average. I get 5 due my seniority. But sick days are not counted as vacation (we pay very high taxes at public healthcare system and the welfare pay us for any sick day up to a certain limits). Except teachers who get up to three/three months and half of vacation (two months/two months and half in summer, at least 2 weeks on Christmas time and other 3/4 weeks between Easter, Carnival, National holidays and some extra days during elections because public schools are the polling stations).

While the following is not legal for the most of employees (although is very common for entrepreneurs).

i think in Florida being a right to work state, and the stimulus checks and unemployment benefits right now you have basically two sets of people,  the ones at home doing nothing, and the ones that are at work being worked to death. Doesn't seem to me there are a lot of in between.  Either you're at work, short staffed pulling your hair out every week.  Or you are on the couch, and you don't give a crap.

we were told yesterday they prefer we not take time off as we are short staffed, just like we were last year.

If you're thinking that the average American gets 4-5 weeks of vacation I would say that is wrong.

I just got bumped to 4 weeks and it is making it hard for me to get motivated to find another job, despite the increasing pain in the rear my job is.

Our 5 year anniversary is in a week.  If family wasn't coming, we'd be in islamorada to celebrate.  I think we may have to plan a trip for next year.

Yep, took me a long time to get 4 weeks.  It does make it hard to leave.

I would guess the average American has 2 to 3 weeks?

That’s a perk some corporations offer, like insurance used to be. As part of the compensation package of incentives.
Most people are starting to expect it though, so you can see the writing on the wall. Maybe we’ll have an executive order on that soon.

worked for a company for 6 and i thought at the 5 year mark i'd have 15 PTO days, sike!   the jump from 10 PTO days to 12.5 was a kick in the nutz.   I didn't stick around for year 7.

Nope. I knew that there you have less paid vacations than in Europe.
4/5 weeks is the Italian average for employees workers (and Kellercl's personal situation, if I understood well).

We haven't stimulus checks here (aside some for private workers, but it's more charity than a real help in fact they're starting to riot) but all the employees can't be fired.
This is not a big issue because a lot of people are working from home (like me) without real issues (of course it depends on the job) but I wonder what a lot of employees who work from home are doing in this moment.
For example I have to renew my son's ID but almost all public offices are closed and the first available appointment in one of the few offices still open is at the end of June. So I wonder what kind of "work" from home can do a person who was before at the desk in a public office preparing and releasing document at the citizens.
