4000 sized reel, I'm partial to Shimano, medium action rod and 15 lb braid. Spheros reel and teramar rod are a good deal, as are the new st Croix triumph line of rods.

Thanks!! If the reel were a Daiwa BG would you recommend a 3000? If I remember correctly they're the same size just different numbers.
3000 or 4000 spinning reel with 15 lb braid and any 7'-7'6" medium weight fast action rod should do the trick. Sheepshead don't require much specialized tackle, you just want something with a sensitive tip and enough backbone to be dropping sinkers up to an ounce or so (depending on depth and current). The ugly stik elite linked above is a good rod and by far the best bang for buck you're gonna get for the rod in my opinion. Plenty of better rods are out there, but none that are remotely close to it for value.
BG4000, penn battle 3500, or Canyon DJR3500 would be my recommendations. If you're gonna be using this for pier fishing, erring on the heavier side for your tackle is probably a smart idea.
Small J-hooks and small pieces of shrimp are key! This has really helped my ability to hook them and keep them from stealing the shrimp. I use a 4000 Penn Spinfisher with a Temple Fork 7 ft rod. I agree with everything else said above. Ugly Stiks are great for the money!
I just bought an Ugly Stck GX2 off Amazon and a Shimano FX4000FC and the pair make an excellent little setup for about 72$. Hopefully they last a little while. But just first impressions i think they could tackle any Sheepshead they came across. I spun 12# cajun red mono on it, again seems like the perfect setup.
