Dec 2 7 pm "Dolphinfish Research Program: 19 Years of Collaborative Fisheries Science"

Greetings from the Hollywood Hills Saltwater Fishing Science and Social Club (HHSFSSC).  I  am very pleased to announce that Dr. Wessley Merten, the director of Dolphinfish Research Program https://dolphintagging.com/  will be our speaker on Dec 2 at 7 pm. The title of his talk is "Dolphinfish Research Program: 19 Years of Collaborative Fisheries Science" .  Please get on the club's mailing to get the zoom link by sending me your email.     How did the meeting go?  We clearly have an issue with large dolphin on the east coast of Florida.

    It went well, thank you. Wes is a great speaker and is running an excellent program.  Less fish, smaller fish, season is changing-showing up later in the year.  The latter is probably climate change (my opinion). The first two is fishing pressure-Wes showed an increase in new commercial boats including long liners fishing in places where mahi are.
    The commercial guys only want fish over 15 lbs so they target those fish and it is hard to know the real mahi by-catch numbers.  I should add that the recreational fleet over the last 50 yrs has increased by a factor of ~10 and people are better at it. Fix the problem? International cooperation with new regs.  A lot of dolphinfish are caught offshore of FL, we should rethink the ten per person and 20" min size. Almost all  small legal female fish are full of eggs.
