Hatch in January

Looking for advice.
I will be in the Hatch sometime in January for a couple of weeks (The very nice sis in law lets me use her property on the river). Retired last year from working > 62 and nursing; didn’t like my odds.

Was wondering about possibly doing some pig slaying in addition to my fishing adventures when I get there.
Question is this:
Is it possible to get landowner permission by politely going up and asking? Or should I stick to chasing fish while I’m there. See there is public hunting in February but will probably be back north coyote hunting and ice fishing by then.
