  Just a quick question...and nothing driving this question other than curiosity. Are you eating the cudas or keeping then for deep drop bait...or another purpose ? Thanks.

  I along with most people I know enjoy eating them (white flaky meat) Haven't gotten ciguatera yet, knock on wood.

  ‘Cudas under five pounds are perfectly safe to eat (and good tasting). Never eat  a big ‘cuda since any chance of ciguatera poison isn’t worth the risk... No amount of cooking removes the toxin and other big specimens of reef fish can be risky as well (grouper, amberjack, etc..)..

  Wasn't tying to sound any warning... just curious. I always enjoy a nice grouper except for any huge ones in the Bahamas...which hasn't happened in ages. Noteworthy many many years ago I couldn't give away a 65# cubera to any of the locals in the Berry Islands ...no one would take him and that's not a fish story. I do know that cuda is frequently on many restaurant menus in the Caribbean islands.

  Nice catch.....I never tried cuda but I've heard from a lot of folks the little ones are very good to eat.

  They are good and I encourage anyone to try them. Thankfully on this trip I didn't have to clean much. It was four of us so I let my buddies keep most of the fish since they don't get to go out as often as I do.
