I wanted a more accurate and a redundant gas level reading. On my Yamaha gage I have had the level jump from 4 bars (out of ten) to 1 bar on two separate occasions. Since I fish deep in the back country, this concerned me for obvious reasons.
secondarily, I like the ability to monitor all of the engine data as well.
Marco Bob, I fish in the same waters as you but I can think of items I would rather spend my money.I a have a very simple procedure,Whenever it shows one less bar on my gas gauge I add 10 gal.and 1 oz of Ring Free. But your right whenever your less than full tank it goes down quicker.
Not sure what hardware was included. Where I have my boats serviced rate is $125 per hour plus parts. It adds up real fast. I am with you on gas gauge info a double check is always good. larrywitt
I got a detailed invoice and I needed a 6yg gateway kit in addition to the n2k backbone. The gateway kit cost $387 so this explains the discrepancy vs what I was expecting. I haven’t been able to figure out whether I really needed this kit though. I was thinking that the Lowrance would be able to connect directly to the engine thru the n2k. Anyone else link a Yamaha engine to a Lowrance?
I am no expert, and I don't know if the Yam takes a special interface kit, but most Lowrance kits are from $100 to $160 with everything you need to tap into your engine N2K

If I may ask, what prompted you to do that, and what advantages, benefits do you expect from it?
Thanks.

There are many good reasons to network a MFD to a engine/fuel sender.
