Shimano Speedmaster 2

Anyone have any experience with the new speed masters? I’ve been interested in adding one to my collection, but would like to hear from anyone who has actually used them. Let me know what ya’ll think!

The old ones were sweet reels thats for sure. I sold all of mine years ago, when I was out of a job, and needed money. I sure wish I had them today.

The specs on the new ones look really nice.

I have one of the old ones that’s my favorite king fish set up. I think I’m going to pull the trigger one a new one to have as a multi purpose reel.

i want a new one as well, but for bottom fishing not kingfishing. Way different than old speedmasters, a lot more drag that is not needed with kingfish

That’s what I want it for. Bottom fishing

Had a chance to try the new Speedmaster II couple days ago. I watched a gentleman catch a beautiful 20lb+ gag on it and the low gear was awesome. Twenty minutes later, caught a nice 20lb+ black fin on another. I’m a bit of a tackle snob and couldn’t find anything about these reels that turned me off. Super loud clicker and nice appearance. These were spooled with 80# braid. Check out tblfishingco.com. Only bottom reels he uses. Don’t blame him. BTW not affiliated in any way other than being friends with one of the employees. Take care and get out.

They are the same design as the talica's. Just with less bearings, a cheaper frame, and a bit less line capcity.
Shimano manufacturers quality products. Speedmaster II is to the talica, as a torium is to a trinidad.
I've got quite a few talica's and all it takes to service them is a Phillips screw driver set, and a 13mm wrench.
