Sharks got me twice on Pine Island sound on consecutive trips(trout and snook)

I used to fish up here all the time, but have mostly been fishing down in the 10k the past 2 years ever since the red tide event. I decided to check on the trout population in PIS a couple weeks ago and got on a hot trout bite with most fish close to 20" and a few well over 20. I had a nice trout get bit in half by a shark as well. Since my PB 26.25 inch trout was caught there 2 years ago, I decided to drive up again last week and see if I could beat it. The big trout had disappeared, but I caught a few 18ers and a decent mid slot red. Lost a nice snook to a shark as well. After fishing inshore from a kayak for 8 years and never getting sharked, I have now been sharked twice in as many trips. I know it is common offshore on wrecks where they learn this behavior, but not so much inshore. I am wondering if the PIS sharks have learned this behavior due to the tarpon fishing in Boca Grande, I know they can be problematic there. Anyone else ever get sharked when targeting snook, reds, and trout on PIS?
I normally post my videos in the paddlecraft forum or the 10k forum, but will post here this time since I was up that way.

It happens a good bit up here as well. I had about 5 run ins with sharks last year, and tried my darndest to net one about 4' and put him in the yak. I didn't want to lose my lure. Thankfully after I tried to net him he would not come close to the yak again. He unded up shaking the lure after a long fight, but he inhaled the decent lady fish I had hooked up first!

Thinking of Sharks.....I've seen many pictures of kayakers fighting or holding a fish while they have their feet dangling off the sides  of the 'yak.  Don't know if you guys do it or not, but it seems to me that's just begging to lose some toes or worse.  ?????

Not me sir, I keep all my appendages in the yak.I have seen far too many men in the brown flannel suits. The only thing that is in the water are my hands on release.
