Hogfish jigs and Snapper jigheads

clarosaclarosa Posts: 834 Officer
I know targeting Hogfish is gaining popularity and I have been messing around with making Hogfish balls Bofa Balls that work pretty darn good. Check em out! Special Discount if you buy 5 packs(2 per pack)or more. https://snappaslappa.com/collections/gear/products/hogballs-bofaballs-hogfish-jigs-earlball-jigs

I make heavy duty Snapper Jigs too https://snappaslappa.com/collections/gear/products/snapper-jigheads-snappaslappa-jigs-custom-jigheads-10pack

Just something I've been messing around with for the past few years and figure i'd give my forum crowd a chance to try them out.

As always, tight lines!
-Chris

I'm assuming  one will be using bait with these J-hook jigs, thus making them illegal when fishing for reef fish.  Additionally we have found that circle hooks are better for hooking hogfish than J-Hooks.
Capt Dave Blanchard is making Hog Wild jigs with circle hooks in 1 oz and 1.5 oz weights which are working very well.

I can put any type of hook on there people want. They are custom made. Circle or J. I've made a ton of both. When targeting sheepshead people like the J hook, when targeting Hogfish people use circle hooks.

Chris, thanks for getting those out to me so quickly.  Wanted to give them a try but the weather didn't cooperate so will be used on another trip...did get some convicts though on normal jigs.  Too rocky to try the hog balls where I was fishing.

Very nice! Looks like you still got on the meat brother.  They DO work on the big sheepies though, just a heads up. You will lose one here or there to the rocks and occasional gag, but we've killed the Sheepies multiple times on the Bofa hogballs.

Yeah, just didn't want the expense because where I was, I KNEW I was going to break off several times.  Will put them to use in a little less rocky areas...

Mike and Paul, have you guys gotten out lately to put those jigs to use? Every trip I have planned has gotten blown by the wind haha. Last trip I ran 2 weeks ago the hogs were tough to come by but the sheepshead were eating and the Gags...well, they weren't playing games. Must have caught over 20 keepers(and broke off a lot too) on the hogfish jigs. Switched to snappa jigs and caught a handful of mangs on 35' of water.

Went out in the bay yesterday and got a lot of convicts and gags.  Got broke off a few times by freight training big gags that we couldn't turn with 20 lb test.  Lost one hog ball to that so stuck with jigs after that.  But working as advertised.

Convicts were thick at every spot we tried in the bay.  Only got one keeper mango but a lot of convicts and lot of C&R Gags.

My God were the Gags THICK our last trip. We definitely lost a lot of snapper jigs and Hog jigs but also caught a lot. Really wish they didn't close the gag season when they are the the most abundant.
