Stradic **** vs CI4

ScaryGaryScaryGary Posts: 29 Greenhorn
Hey guys,

I was looking for opinions on these two reels. I was looking to put together a nice light tackle outfit for inshore/freshwater for here in South Florida. My old school white stradics are still working great but i think it's time for an upgrade.

So far I have a custom Bushido blank custom rod on the way and would like to pair it with a Stradic Ci4 or ****. But really can't decide which to go with. I guess you could throw a Sustain in there too, but I've never owned one.

Is the Ci4 worth the extra cash?
Is the main difference just the weight?
Which do you guys prefer and why?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I have only used the new stradic **** but coming from the old school stradics it took a while to get use to how light the new reels are. I prefer a little heft to my reels and I would have a hard time going any lighter than the ****

As I get older and weaker I prefer the lightest outfit I can put together. It makes it lots easier casting all day. One of my fishing buddies has a couple of Ci4s and I have Okuma Helios which are the same weight but 1/2 the price. The Shimanos are a bit smoother.

Probably way late. You should have purchased something by now. I fished ci4 for awhile and broke down and purchased an **** for the wife's rod. Next purchase for my light inshore rod will be an ****.

well I have had one for over a year now. a 4000 size and I absolutely love it! it is by far the best reel I have ever owned in this class and size and as for it against the ci4 I like the feeling of the **** body over the composite CI4. I feel as if it feels more durable

It really isn't. I work for a local rod and reel repair shop and just last week we got in another one with a foot broken off. Just don't see that with the older metal body stradics. And, what is worse is the new stradic drag mech chews up drag washers very quickly. I am replacing them all the time, while on the older stradics we can grease up the old drag washers and reuse them. I prefer the older stradics and still use them- the FE through FJ's only. Something else... last week I worked on one customers 3 stradics... 2 ci4's and 1 FJ. when done, to me, the FJ felt smoother. As a reel tech I prefer the older stradics hands down. But to each their own...
