2nd hand...friends in Duck Key this week. Tough going. They found a frigate Sunday and got 5 nice fish off it but that was it. Yesterday found decent lifters but had to put in serious running to find anything.
Not sure this is much help.

I was down there in marathon this time last year and it was the same thing
everyone burning a heck of alot of fuel but not many fish, and most were smaller
Worth a shot everyday to run or troll artificials out to 600 ft because ya never know
worst case you run in and yellowtail or fish hawk channel
good luck, hope the wind is down for ya

Going to Big Pine on the 18th also. I'm sure there will be something out there to catch.

    Just got back yesterday.
Burned a lot of fuel running around.
got 15 dolphin in the two days fishing.
Mostly small flippers a couple of gaffers nothing over 20 pounds.

Pulled some fish off frigates but most fish came from big weed mats at around 1000ft.

Last week it was pretty close.  Maybe 500' and it was CRANKING!!  You could tell you where there just by the ways the seas kicked up even on days with light breeze.  Fishing the end of the week got better so let's hope more fish are on the way.

Last few days from 400 - 600 out of Marathon, BUT 99% from 19" - 19 7/8", still fun pitching and C&R, and getting a few 20 plus keepers.

Did better in the "large" weed beds about 50' in diameter, basically no normal large mats that you would usually see.

Did get 1 big loner cow in small scattered weeds.

If you see the small birds, go for it, not as good a frigates.

Thanks roletr I'm down starting on the 18th for a week in marathon. Hopefully they stick around that close and maybe get some more coming in! If anyone else gets out please let us know! :)

East wind now should improve things. The past week had been 18-24” fish in 600’. The steam moved in close yesterday so who knows. One of the charter boats bragged about a 25 pounder two days ago. So you know the mahi bite is slow. Tuna are solid at humps. Current ripping on reef. It’s tough right  now. But still good.
