3-16 19 offshore

left from punta rassa boat ramp at first light on out in glassy like calm conditions. Made our first stop in 95 feet where it was instant game on with two nice red groupers joining the party. There was absolutely ZERO tidal movement, and any movement on the drift was from the wisp of a breeze we had. Caught a couple 19.5"ers...  Tried working the show for a while with no success so moved on.

Ran across a giant school of bonita/blackfins that were feeding and fliping up top... Water was gin clear and could see the school of fish slowly moving... Made a cast with a metal jig and came tight a couple times and off before finally putting the hook to one... and it was a good one... ran off a good 75-100 yds on the first run followed by several other blistering runs... We worked the fish towards the boat and i could see looking down we had a nice blackfin on... it was doing the deathe circle some 4-50 ft below the boat when it came unglued... little dissappointing  but good to see them showing up...

Next stop, we dropped in 110 feet. Great show, not much of a bite until Marks rod doubles over and nearly rips the rod out of his hand.. Works the fish up and turned out to be a beast of a red grouper at 35". couple small throwback RGs here...  Tried working the show for while with no other luck on the big girls....

Bounced around a few more spots on great looking shows with very little to show for it. Put down some smaller hooks and rigs and the lanes and vermilion would play... just not the bigger grouper we were hoping for.

Stopped on one last show and had a bit more success with one big thump that broke us off and one more keeper for the boat.

Today was not a fire bite in my opnion due to lack of tide, but the quality of fish was certainly hard to beat.
