First Fish of the New Year

2 Jan 2019...Wabasso/Vero...Got stuck working New Years day, so had to postpone start of the year until the 2nd.  Pine Island, first fish of the year, 15 inch Snook.  Moved to Hobart Landing island, channel and flats. Found biggest Snapper of the day, 13 inches.  Snapper were the predominant fish today, did not count, but had 7 that would have been keepers.  Picked off a 17 inch Trout, only hit 2 more on the day.  No real signs of action on the flat.  Hit a cut, 20 inch Lady.  Later, on the way home pulled a 22.5 inch Lady.  On another edge found a 15.5 inch Blue.  Flat to the West of the Sisters was holding Jacks, Ladies and Sailcats.  Big Lady jumped and backed the line over itself, break off, good top water gone.  Lot of pops and swirls, big Ladies and Cats.  Third Trout came past the Grand Harbor Golf Cart bridge.  Working away from the schooled bait, dropped a Matrix Shad in a pocket.  Fish on, biggest Trout in several years, could not get control, pulled the hook.  On the way out caught a 13 inch Jack.  Second one was way bigger and had a Shark follow right up to the boat.  Vero/Johns Island, looking for Sheepies, spotted several, but no players.  Did get one that was way too short.  Most of today’s players came on the Baby Vudu Shrimp and Matrix Shad Midnight Mullet.  All fish released for future encounters.
