  Trout use to be very easy to find in the bay, however in recent years especially with all the algae blooms and bay grass die off we've had, they can be tough.  But looking for 'clean dirty' water is what you want to do, where the water is not crystal clear but just a hazy blue/green that you can't see that well in to.  Avoid areas where there is that pea soup color water ( theres some in the middle bay just outside the everglades park boundry towards islamorada right now you can see).  Out nearer to the gulf of mexico is often a great area as the water stays nicer there, near oxfoot, schooner, and blue bank.  Occasionally you can find some muds closer in, where you'll just notice smaller chunks of puffy mud coming up where elsewhere it is clean.  This is often where you'll find trout mudding along with baitfish, mullet, etc...
