Caught a lot of pilchards, shrimp and mullet. With all this wind, what’s my best bet for fishing inshore out of the wind in Key largo around Gilbert’s Resort? I’d like to catch some decent dinner fare fish.
Caught another 3doz+ pilchards (some jumbo’s mixed in with mediums and smalls) tonight. Got the itch that has to be scratched so we’re going to poke our head out of John Pennekamp tomorrow. (I have family with me including 4 kids 3-14 years old) so I can’t go out if it’s too rough. Having around 6-7doz live pilchards, 6-8 doz live shrimp, a live squid, live pinfish and a handful of finger mullet, sure hoping we can get out far enough to get some good groceries. Goals for tomorrow are a nice size king, a keeer gag/black and a keeper mutton. The rest is just a bonus.
I don't know what our wind conditions are but if you can make it ti the patch reefs, you should be golden. Hang a chum bag and go for it. A lot depends upon the size boat - be safe
I fished mosquito bank last weekend. The fishing wasn't much to write home about, but we caught enough mangroves and yellow tail for a nice dinner. It would be great with kids; easy to get to and nonstop action.
We went out today. Tried to make it out to around Molasses but it got really sporty and with all the kiddos on the boat we turned around. Found a nice looking area back closer in per the GPS. Live bait and chunk threadfin herring worked great. Every yellowtail was a flag and live bait produced 3 mutton (1 keeper). Fishing was short lived as 1 of the kiddos got sick instantly. Back at it as soon as weather permits.
