I've always liked sardines,  Vienna sausages & potted meat not so much since I've been grown.
Some canned sardines are much better than others.
The best sardines are served uncooked with chopped onions and but those are extremely hard to come by unless you are in the Netherlands in June and they are called "herring".

    I think I have a great idea for a new thread....MFSGA!

Who won't appreciate a pickled herring thread?

    Anyone ever tried eating this?

Potted meat would be like lobster when compared to this 'food'.

I bought a jar once a long time ago....it's carp.
Really nasty stuff, I have no idea what it is good for, Made me wonder why the cloven hoof is a no no.

Said it before, stuck in the woods in Dixie county hunting with no food all day. My dad and I begged for something to eat at the end of the day after nothing to eat all day. Our guide found a can of Vienna sausages and some crackers behind his seat. Best thing I ever ate in my life. My dad agreed. Lol

In college I worked at a fertilizer dealer and we used to buy Prairie Belt smoked sausages in gallon cans and warm them up outside with propane cookers. We would serve them with crackers and hoop cheese. Would also have homemade warm honeybuns. We would do this 1 day a week usually on Wednesday starting about 7:00 in the morning and would usually go through 5 gallons of sausages. This thread reminded me of that and now I'll have to see if I can find some.

I don't recall ever hearing the term "Hoop cheese" before.

We uae to sell hoop cheese at the store I worked at when I was a kid.

It was pretty good.  Tasted like cheddar to me.

Just regular.  I don't even know if I have seen the cream sauce.  If I do, I might have to try it.

Never had Herring from a jar or can  but when I went to Amsterdam, I tried some of the raw herring. I liked it and that was even without going to a brown  café.See the source image

    That's not food...
I can't believe anyone could ever eat one of those things.

Nearly all country grocery stores had hoop cheese and would cut off the amount requested. It was usually in the meat market near the scales used to weigh out various meats and the customer could see the reading of weight. Some called it rat trap cheese.
