Key West 196 range

What would be the safe range offshore for a 19' bay boat?  Experienced boater, calm day.

We have gone 25 miles out of Clearwater to 65 fow.

I would make sure you have good communications capability when your out where you want to fish, And safety equipment. Not to mention adequate fuel and a sound boat and motor. VHF and cell phones won't cut it once you get more than 25 miles or so.

Even though VHF signals are "line of sight", The Coast Guard station at St Petersburg has a very tall tower for extended range. While boat to boat range is only about 15 miles, I have reached  the Coast Guard from 70nm away offshore from Crystal River.

MY WORST FEAR......THAT WHEN I DIE MY WIFE WILL SELL ALL MY BOATS & FISHING GEAR FOR WHAT I TOLD HER I PAID FOR IT.......

I may not always agree with what you say,
but I will always respect your right to be wrong!
