Another tie

So, Yesterday started with me getting pounded by a rainstorm before I even cleared the basin at Yacht club. I barely had time to "suit up"  in my bibs & jacket before it let loose.  The wind was howling from the git-go.  And while I had my new lucky fishing shirt on.....I wound up struggling and had 3 snook and a trout and stayed in it till almost noon.....Ugh.

Today, the weather was so much better wind wise....but I was quickly reminded of what I forgot...bug spray. The no see-ums ate me alive!  First spot is a nice trout...which is nice to get out of the way early. Then, I hit a few points hoping for a snook but wound up with a Red.

This made it so that I felt I had to go south to insure I would get a snook.....any snook...and....I did. Since I was already an extra $8 in fuel for the ride south I decided to look around. There was some half way decent water here and there.....and some real junk. Anyway, I also got a second and a third snook ...plus another Red.

I had previously looked at archived reports so that I knew that today being #116 would tie my 2014 total.   What does that mean?...Not sure...Is the river in better shape than last year ( 86) or 2016 ( 106 ).... I don't know that anecdotal information can predict that....but it is interesting.

Well...2014's number is now in the rear view mirror.  My first spot...had someone in it so I went to another one and got a snook. I threw the CAL a lot to get a trout and started looking for a Red. By 7:40 I had what is my smallest Red of the year.

A very unimpressive slam...but it is # 117   The next goal would be to get to 2015's number of 126

I kept at it and got this upgrade

    And this 4 spotter

I finished at 11 AM with 4 snook 3 Reds and a Trout

Pretty cool Joe. I guess we both had our slams by the time I saw you go by. I have caught several very small reds recently too. Unfortunately as I released one of my little ones yesterday I forgot there was a dolphin close by so he is a gonner. Crap, and he had such potential!

    Thanks John...

Today was the second small Red...and two days in a row.

Maybe when I'm sight fishing I just pass these by thinking they are mullet LOL

Looks like he had a blue edge tail. Nice to see there are small ones around. It would be interesting to know if they are the result of local spawning fish.

So, Sunday was pretty windy and made things a bit tough. I felt with the amount of wind I should be able to catch a snook later in the morning so I concentrated on a long grassileria edge to catch a trout. First fish is a snook LOL.
I caught a couple ladyfish also but kept bouncing around trying to secure the trout so I would not have to go up north of Vero to get one. It finally happened but not before this

Some extra spots on this one. I was conflicted but ran back to the Grassileria bar for this

So, That put #118 in the boat. I kept at it and what was funny is that between 8:55 and 9:20...I caught that little red in the previous post and another trout and snook...another slam in just 25 minutes....including travel time between two spots...Go figure.

As I type this...the wind is already 18 from the East...not great conditions.....but we shall see.

I might as well put this here.  I fished on Monday figuring it would be the last almost fish-able day. I was surprised when I had my slam relatively early. The wind was pretty ferocious but I kept to lee shores and was able to put a decent day together when not dodging the splash & dash showers.  I had several decent ones like these.

And here's the Red...with extra spots

Finished with 9 snook 2 trout a Red and a big Jack.....

    That is #119

Today,  I had to get the wife to the Orlando airport...but since I was up early...and needed coffee...I splashed for an hour and 15 minutes of fishing and caught 2 snook and a trout.... weather was WINDY.

Well....the wind was a bit more southerly today....but was REALLY cranking. The low tide was also about as low as I have seen in a good long while. I was able to get a snook on a white CAL right away off a windy point and caught a few more here and there but the search for a trout to move the game along was long. I finally got one off a grass bar on a chartreuse CAL. The wind was no friend and while I wanted to sight fish...the first two Reds I literally almost ran over before I saw them. It got late and I had really almost given up hope.....I ran to a spot north of Wabasso and got lucky....

Took till Noon....but that makes #120   Finished up with 8 snook and 2 more jumped off and a trout and a Red.
