Better bet for some decent diving -- Crystal River or Cedar Key?

My Hutchinson Island trip got scrubbed due to high seas, so I'm spending Friday/Saturday with a buddy in Crystal River. We have the option of running out of Crystal River or Cedar Key. I've fished and snorkeled all over Crystal River/scalloping, etc, but never been scuba diving there. I've fished rod/reel in Cedar Key, but it has been 20 years since I've been there. I'm looking for fishing and scuba diving/spear fishing. Not sure whether Crystal River or Cedar Key would be the better bet for finding some decent clean water for diving. Any suggestions? I'm comfortable running to about 30 miles out regardless of where I leave from.

West out of Crystal River or SW out of Cedar Key, you'll be diving the same spots.  You probably need to get to 50 ft for decent visibility.  Normally, the shallow areas should be clearing up by October, but with all this heat, this isn't a normal year.

It's an easier run to deeper water out of Cedar Key.
