Fort Lauderdale airport while the middle school was being built? Never finished on time. Next up was high school. That wasn't finished on time either. Went to Plantation high school till the middle of 10th grade on double session before South Plantation was finished. Five years at temp schools because they could not keep up with growth and development. At the time, it was never a concern or issue.

I've never heard of a temporary school before, but virtually all of the schools I went to in Hillsborough County had temporary classrooms that I imagine were put in place for the same reason (growth).

What concern are you referring to?

Lol nope this was far from portables that were added. Our middle school was never finished till I was in high school. We were bused to Ft. Lauderdale airport and spent our middle school years in wooden two story buildings from WW 2

Then again the high school was not finished so we went double session at plantation because South Plantation was not finished till the middle of 10th grade.

Of course double session means you are in school the first half of the day or the second.

I remember Davie well. Wasn't far from you in west Plantation. I tried my hand at horses back then. They kicked my ****, stuck to dirt bikes where I controlled the power, not the horse.lol

Two room schoolhouse.   Eight grades. 1st through 6th in one room. Six rows of desks. One grade per row.  Each class got one hour of instruction and spent the rest doing assignments.  7th and 8th grades were in the other room.

Two outhouses. One for the boys one for the girls.  Sears Roebuck catalog for toilet paper.

Hand pump on the well.  Which was a big improvement over the rope and bucket.

Pot bellied stove for heat in the winter. That and a thick sweater.

Air conditioning?  Didn't know it existed.

And we carried out lunch. Usually some biscuits and jelly. Or cornbread and tomato.

Went thru grades 6-8 in Germany. The DOD school at Wiesbaden was a former SS barracks. Still had the rifle racks on the walls in the hallway. And the German eagle engraved in the stone work to each classroom entrance with the swatstika chiseled out.
Not to mention the bomb shelter under the building.

I taught there in 1969, and met my wife there.  I taught wood shop.  I taught for Lauderhill Middle school.  We both move to the New Middle school, and decided to get married and I did not want to work with my wife or they would not let us, for got.  I then went to New River Middle School. I can tell you stories about that place, from kids jumping out of the second story windows to shutting down the run ways because of kids to name a few LOL

That's when I was there. Don't remember shop till I took it in the 9th grade at Plantation. Do you remember Mr. Hucka the math teacher. Lol
     He was a odd duck.

Had a few classes out under a shade tree due to no A/C, but remember getting to go home due to no heat.

He must have been in the Plantation Middle School, I have lost so many names from that time.  Dang, brings back many memories of Ft Lauderdale, when it was "PARADISE"  One of my  favorite restaurants has just closed, Earnie's Conch Chowder House on South US one recent;y closed after 48 years.

I was there in 7th grade, 1966.  Moved to the brand new Plantation High off Sunrise blvd after that. Middle school hadn’t been built yet. Neither had South.
    Remember Earnie’s too. Good stuff
