Past half way...

So Friday I was able to get a slam and with number 43 I was at the half way point from last year. I launched at 6 AM with Topwater guy at Yacht club and was able to get a couple small trout at my first stop...Next two spots were empty but finally got a little snook.
The day did not get a lot better with two more trout with one being a slot fish and three more small snook.

I did have one big snook on...but it got me in a hurricane blow down and broke off. The Red was the only decent fish.

Saturday, I had convinced myself it would be a slow day...so much so that I told a young forum member it would probably not be worth his time to go...I would regret saying that.  With weekend crowds I opt to launch at wabasso and run back north. My first spot is three slot trout...I repositioned not far away and got a snook.

Not a monster but moves the game forward. It was going to get better. The hunt was on for a Red. Next up was a spot I rarely even go...but the water was decent looking and there was bait so... I get in a good position to look and Holly Hannah.. a good presentation and it is game on.... great fight with a bunch of jumps.

33 inches....

Back on the hunt ....and after a couple refusals I was thinking it was getting hot and I was feeling it....but I look up ahead on a Grassileria edge and here is a Red cruising right towards me...

26 inches and very pretty color...

Recharged...I try one last spot that was close by...

Some nice fish today

Head for home with #44 in the boat...which means I'm working the downhill run now...

Today was Fathers day. I made the mistake of getting wrapped up in watching the 24 Hours of LeMans and other than falling asleep for a nap in the evening...was up till after 2:30 AM watching...so when 5 came...I was dragging.
I got to Wabasso and headed to my first spot. Got a trout and a ladyfish...Next stop I hook up a REALLY nice snook...two jumps and the CAL comes loose...I pull a small snook out a few casts later.  Next spot I get this..

4 spots...and it is 6:55 and that is #45 and 4 in a row...

Try for some upgrades but 3 more small snook and then get a decent Trout..

I am a little surprised at the decent trout bite here lately. I thought with water temps close to 90 they would be slowing down.  Nice job on the slams Joe. I sure had a lot of rejections Friday before getting my 28"er.

I'll put #46 here... It started slow as I usually expect on the end of outgoing thru the tide change. The first three spots were empty except a ladyfish... Finally got a trout and could move on....Then an epic run of missed snook...either missed hit or pulled hook or even worse..break offs. It was really working on me. I finally got one to stay on

And after several more and a couple refusals by reds...got the needed fish.

I lost a really nice snook but this one was not bad...

Today, I thought I had totally out foxed myself. Because the fishing has slowed down up by Sebastian and most of my fish have been south...I opted to put in at Wabasso since my boat only gets about 5 MPG...but my pick up will do 15 MPG pulling the boat. Tide is falling and already low. The first three spots I'm hitless on plastic. I decide that I better get some bait. That, was easier said..or typed...than done. So, just shy of an hour for a dz good baits.....not sure what happened but there is not a lot of bait around. I tried another spot with plastic but I kinda knew things were tough. I baited up and the first spot I pull a small snook...so, I'm not skunked. I run way south and hit a trout spot with plastic and catch three and pull hooks on two others.  Start the search for a Red...saw one and was refused. Moved to a shaded shoreline and I get to upgrade the snook....

30 incher...why do you catch slots out of season  :/

Move south a little ways and see a Red...make the pitch and it gets the bait off the hook. Quickly get another bait right back in there and a bigger Red comes out and chows down!

So, that's #47  It gets hot and I get refused by a long run of Reds...but as I get ready to quit..I one last spot it...and it pays..after a small snook I see a nice fish up ahead.I get two refusals but finally get the take.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about...  36 inches and fat!

    It's late and hot...quit at 11:45
