That's an old style Delta valve

    Parts readily available

I change a TON of those ... do it from the back side new pressure balance valve
DO NOT hack it in with "Shark Bites" !!!  I just finished one last week Total tax tag and title
under 4 clams !!! including access panel ...

Turn the water off and disassemble. This valve must have resilient seats that are probably replaceable.
It may also have an adjustable gland that you can tighten and stop the leaking..
Get the seats out and go to the hardware store, you will probably find a replacement kit.
You can see how it comes apart....just don't f*** it up!

Get rid of it and replace it with independent valves.

I think he's trying to avoid that.
Replacing may mean re-tiling the entire shower.

You need tomorrow ignore everyone on this thread except Noel, and whoever said hire a professional. You can repair it as he said, snd, you can change it without tearing out your tile. If you want to repair it find a you tube vid on repairing an old style Delta shower valve. HD and Lowe’s will have the parts. As bad as that one looks  you should probably get a local plumber to change it. Do not use Roter Rooter or Ben Franklin unless you want to spend way too much money.

Probably a good idea. Changing the parts is fairly easy, but that one looks pretty bad.

you would love this potty. hot on the right, cold on the left. The pipes go around and under to get in the correct hole.
new units can be put in upside down or whatever to work properly.
need to remove some tile so he can get at them better.
He did cap those lines so we have water

I do not trust them ... rather bring out the torch

Old valve spray some blaster leave over night ...heat nut ...tap with plastic mallet ... cap unscrews ... remove all parts ...
Clean out cavity ... Install new seats / Springs / Ball and trim  good as new  parts = $75 tops ...

Or Install New Simmons or Delta Valve ...

The Old Moens were the easiest fix if piped backwards. Turn the handle to the right (or left), take the screw out of it, pull the handle off and reinstall with it pointing the opposite direction. I've seen a bunch of back to back ones piped like that on purpose.
