I've been away for the past few weeks getting my Mom's house cleared out and ready to put on the market. It was a late spring, but my brother-in-law got his boat launched and back in the marina so we took a chance on the weather hoping to get an early bite. We fished two days, and the weather was a challenge. A foggy mist and the temperature only got up to the lower 50's on both days.
We fished the rips in the inlet where the current washes across shallow bars and then abruptly drops back to 25 feet.
We drifted thru the rips and worked Hopkins and Ava 27 jigs deep, but got mainly Bluefish and small Stripers. It was "drift and run back", over and over.
Day two started out with fog also, but it was forecast for clearing and the wind to lay down in the afternoon, so we went outside and trolled Bunker Spoons and Mojo Jigs along the beach to the north. We got quite a few school sized ones (10#), and finally Glen landed a fairly good one, so we called it a day.
I should be back at home and fishing out of Homosassa in another week or so.
