Out of town Stripers

I've been away for the past few weeks getting my Mom's house cleared out and ready to put on the market. It was a late spring, but my brother-in-law got his boat launched and back in the marina so we took a chance on the weather hoping to get an early bite. We fished two days, and the weather was a challenge. A foggy mist and the temperature only got up to the lower 50's on both days.

We fished the rips in the inlet where the current washes across shallow bars and then abruptly drops back to 25 feet.

We drifted thru the rips and worked Hopkins and Ava 27 jigs deep, but got mainly Bluefish and small Stripers. It was "drift and run back", over and over.

Day two started out with fog also, but it was forecast for clearing and the wind to lay down in the afternoon, so we went outside and trolled Bunker Spoons and Mojo Jigs along the beach to the north. We got quite a few school sized ones (10#), and finally Glen landed a fairly good one, so we called it a day.

I should be back at home and fishing out of Homosassa in another week or so.

It's always nice to get back to your roots. Ocean stripers are great fish. I also cut my teeth rip fishing for stripers and blues in the NE before we moved to FL in 1977. I'd like to get back up there to fish for them again one more time before it's too late.

Looks like two days of serious fishing. Nice. This place is alive, and the fish are missing having their lips pulled inside out by "The Salty Dog"! Hurry back, they miss you.

Very cool report Pete! 50 and wet fog is tough on us old Floridians! Looks like you had a lot of fun with those bass and blues!! They say the striper fishing is as good as it ever was now a days! I have a friend who recently was killing them trolling around NYC harbor right near the Statue of Liberty, nice ones to 30lbs!!!

Nice fish but I have to admit I misread the title. I was expecting strippers.

Tom ..... They're pretty expensive and can't be found for a dollar.

    Tony Maja Bunker Spoons
    Custom Stainless Steel Bunker Spoons

Tony Maja Custom Bunker Spoons are made of extra heavy gauge stainless steel which makes them work at a greater depth with less wire or line and with only one keel.

    Price: $38.99

But  "I know a guy"  and can get cheap imitations cut out of old moon hub caps with the weighted keel made from tire weights. LOL
