I'm going to be working in Miami for a few days and I plan to take my boat with me. 18' hydra sports. I'm curious about Biscayne Bay. I've never been there. I'd love to get into some mutton snapper if there's any to be had. What might be a good bet for the area? I'm only going to be fishing one full day.

If I had my old boat down there in the next few weeks, I'd poke outside Government Cut, catch some thread herring on the range markers outside the cut (No. 6 green sabiki), and then drift in 100 feet of water. Sailfish, dolphin, tuna, etc.. Bring a box of sardines and some 1 -2 ounce bucktail jigs in case you blank on the live bait--you can drift the sardines and catch all kinds of fish. Freeline, too. Put one on bottom and maybe a mutton, too. That's if the wind is 10-15 knots, no more.
If windy, get a load of live shrimp and a few blocks of chum and anchor in one of the channels you'll see on your chart, south of Key Biscayne. You'll catch small muttons, grunts, possibly mackerel, bonefish, etc. Still a lotta great tackle shops down that way. Crook&Crook, etc.
If it's really windy (as it has been for a while and likely will for the next several weeks), honestly, I wouldn't bother hauling my boat down there. Too risky.
PS: You could book a few hours on one of the partyboats (Reward Fleet is good) for less than it would cost in fuel to trailer and run your own boat down there...
