Best boats for Everglades & Florida Bay
Hello,
I am looking for a flats boat to use in the back country and Florida bay to teach my kid to fish. I am more interested in a boat that will run well in chop than skinny. What would be the best option in the 16-18 range with live well or wells that I can use for live baiting and go to the local sandbar in Fort Lauderdale. Looking at used Hewes Redfishers but open to other suggestions? $10k-$20k used price range.

Look at the old Mavericks too...
Well said Pete... I work out of an old Maverick (really old...) so I may be a bit prejudiced. Look for a used 17' Maverick master angler with a 115 motor... There's always a few of them on the market - and one in really good condition will run you 12 to 16k, ready to go... Great all around skiffs that you can take your kids out in and have a solid hull under you...

Also look at the Scout 177 Sport or Key West 1720 CC . Both boats give you bang for buck in options and built well. I've seen used models not to old in your price range.I prefer the Scout, that bow flare really keeps you dry when running fast in some chop.
panga! also stump knockers are great economical boats that hit the chop good with the high v bow, but float skinny with the flat bottom.
We use an 18' in the inter coastal of jacksonville and also the mayport inlet(which gets rough) and to run the beaches.
They are also light so tow easy and dont need much power.
Good luck in your search!
