Caught 3 gaffers today

We headed offshore this morning around 7:00am. My buddy John let me captain his boat today.

We hit the NE bait spot with nothing going on there. Headed on down to Bull Shark with more of the same. Ran out to Shrimpers and pulled up 8 greenies in short order.

We headed do east to Push Button Hill and made a drift with no luck. Decided to run an gun for some fins. Headed Southeast from the Hill out to 800ft were we spotted what we thought was some buoys. We rigged up a couple of baits and as we pulled up to it we found out it was just a bundle of about 9 balloons.

Being that the baits were on we decided to let them drift. Within minutes Johns line started to take off. Large cow skying out of the water and fish is on. We see a large bull skying out as well but my line was slack so I didn't think it was on my line. He skys out of the water again and I see my line. Double header. First time I have ever caught anything off Mylar balloons.

John spots a third gaffer so we opted to get his fish in first. One in the box and bull still running around. John tosses in another bait and quickly hooks up another gaffer. My fish wanted nothing to do with the boat. Anytime I got him close he made another run. We worked together and got the 2nd fish in the box.

After about a 30 minute fight we finally landed the bull.

Decided to head in and call it a day. Back at Johns dock around noontime.

Thanks again John for an awesome day on the water. First time I have fished since 2016...

Caught in 800ft southeast of the St. Lucie Inlet. The water temp was 75 degrees. The current was slow for out there at just 3 knots.
