Going tomorrow to check for shad and hopefully some hybrid strippers. Any reports yet?

A few shad but not many. No sunshines.

We got only 2. Fishing was slow. Saw a guy catch a hybrid stripper.

The shad are there but didn’t bite until afternoon when we were there on New Years Day. The water is still pretty high.

The water levels are pretty high. Not good conditions for bank fishing. That was New Years Day and we just got rain these last couple of days. Probably a bit higher now.

Thanks flybyme for the report, please keep us posted as the run hopefully turns on and the water levels hopefully go down.

I am going to try the St. Johns area in about 3 weeks. Any more recent reports for shad in St. Johns?

Starting to show up pretty good around mullet lake area. Scattered with a few small schools.
Heard some at the Econ as well.
Water temps have gone from 65 to 46 to 52 in the past week & half. Probably drop down in the 40’s again this week.
Water is still high so wading is going to be dicey.

Never targeted shad during the migration and would love to try this year. Any body willing to take show a new guy the ropes, send a pm would be happy too meet up. What weight fly rod do you guys prefer.

On the off chance that you jump at the chance to fly fish, tie up some little vivid flies and have at it on the St. Johns amid the shad run.
