Home Ten Thousand Islands General Fishing & The Outdoors

Sunday Oct 15th @ the Pass

Launched @ 6:55 with water at 84.1 and decent clarity.
Purpose of the trip was to fish and explore the area after Irma.
Found many previous sand bars/mud flats were gone.
Usual depth @ low tide was 2 feet and found them at 3+.
This will make for quicker "place to place" travels vs. going the "long way around.
Expected to see more trees in the water on he beach. Not many.

Now.....let's fish!
Started on the beach and got 2 decent size Jacks on a topwater.
Fishing partner lost a couple ladyfish.
Water was at the edge of the trees and that probably contributed to no snook.
Into Blind Pass and after 100 yards and nothing, went to the SE corner of Cape Romano.
A little change here with some trees no longer where they were.
Partner did manage a 25" redfish on white/black Spro buckatail.
I got a 7 pound jack on a magnum Pop-R.
Into the Morgan River.
Water was stained with the incoming tide. No fish!
Back to the outside where the redfish was caught and managed 2 catfish on the Spro.
To a little island and got 4 short trout @ 14".
Water now near high tide and went to rocks @ Marco Point.
Lost a couple ladyfish on shrimp/cork combo.
Throwing a white swim bait, had something hit it hard and cut it in half.
Thinking mackerel.
OK, so the fishing was adequate and saw what I wanted to for "what changed".
Hope to make it out in 2 weeks for more piscatorial adventure!
Be safe. Hope to see you out there.
