Attempted to do a spoon fishing challenge a week after Hurricane Irma. Encountered some tough fishing conditions and had to do some improvising. It was just too rough and current was super strong. Should have gone surfing instead, but oh well. I did see mullet running but not in huge schools, hopefully next week conditions are looking to be a lot calmer and will be able to do some spooning for reds, blues, macks, jacks, and snook in the surf.

What kind of spoon do you prefer, and do you have better luck with it than a diving plug, jig or swimbait?
Curious as those are my go to baits for the surf, but I have heard spoons work well...I only get blues on them however.
I prefer the gator spoons in an ounce weight. I've caught all sorts of species with it in the surf even pompano which totally surprised me. I prefer the spoon because you can cast it a mile when conditions are good and I can cover more distance with it. I've used jigs, plugs, and swimbaits too but haven't had as much success with them maybe because I don't use them as often, but at that particular spot there's a lot of coquina so I don't like losing those more expensive lures. You can buy those gator style spoons on ebay in bulk and they come out to about $2 per and I'm not so heart broken if I lose one as opposed to a $10 diving plug. Jigs and swimbaits are pretty cheap too but they don't cast out as far and I get snagged more often with those at least at that spot.
awesome thanks for sharing keep us posted! sounds like a good way to cover water as you mentioned, currently in Jacksonville FL lots of mullet still headed your way!
