Live well question.

mr.bubbamr.bubba Posts: 72 Deckhand
My live well does not bring water to the well when out on the water. I can hear my live well run when I flip the switch but no water. Screen is clear and I removed it to make sure it was not clogged.
If I use a garden hose at home it seems to pick up water and spray it in the well. Any ideas?

Probably air locking on you........do google search on "livewell airlocked".......many threads about it & causes and cures vary.

It will be easier to help you, if you read through some of that & if you still don't have it figured out come back and ask a more specific question pertaining to what your installation is plumbed like.

Probably be a simple fix once you understand the causes of air locking.

Backup for a few feet with the pump on.

You say when you are on the water, the pump does not work. Is this while running? Or stationary? If you can provide a simple diagram of your piping, I think we can figure this out quickly.

When I am out fishing (stationary) or running out, I turn the live well switch on and I can hear the pump running but no water comes in the live well. The intake is on the back of my transom. The piping runs along the bottom of the boat and up to the nozzle at the top of the live well.

Definitely sounds like air in the pump, my last boat would do that especially if I had not used it for a while. With the pump running, I would pop off the quick disconnect from the side of the pump headed to the live well and as soon as the first drop of water started flowing I would just reconnect it. Would always work great for the rest of the day.

had the same problem on my boat. just make sure that when the piping comes out of the pump it is always an uphill run to the livewell . any dips in the plumbing and it will act just like a p-trap on a sink. water sits there and will create an airlock.

Thanks I will give it a try. (Tim). I checked the piping and it's up hill. No dips.

is this a new boat? once mine acted like that and the shaft of the pump had rusted and separated from the impeller. pump was running fine, but the impeller wasn't turning. changed out the cartridge type motor and everything was fine.

It's a 2000 seaark. Pump looks new. I've had it for 3 years.
