Trouble getting out of boat.

HawgmanHawgman Posts: 8 Greenhorn
I've been boating for 40+ years and never had this problem. I fish solo 90% of the time on freshwater lakes in Arkansas, most of which don't have docks at the ramps. I've launched solo hundreds of times and have a proven system that keeps me dry. (Don't mind wading a little in the summer but it's miserable getting wet in early spring when it's cold.) After I load the boat on the trailer I just reverse the system. My problem is my new boat is much higher when it's on the trailer and my legs, while long, aren't long enough to reach the trailer. I've only launched my new boat once and never thought about getting out of the boat until I realized my legs wouldn't reach. I had to climb over the side of the boat and use the fenders as a step onto the ramp. Besides getting wet, I risked a stiff fine had someone caught me in the water. I've never had this problem with any of my other boats. Does anyone have a solution? Not much room for a ladder like you see on party barge trailers.

I had steps on the winch post on my cat trailer. Was very easy to walk the tounge an up the steps into the bow.

I have to hear more about not being allowed in the water. as far as getting off the boat without getting in the water put a ramp on the tongue and walk off to your tow vehicle. You will still obviously have to get from the bow to the trailer tongue.

In winter I carry a pair of inexpensive hip boots that slip on easily.

Hawgman U are not alone. I too fish alone a lot as I am retired, most of the time. Thought I had it figured out. Launched boat, rope attached, pulled to dock, got in and fished. Got back to ramp , backed down trailer, hobbled to boat, got in and drove on trailer. No problem right? Now how the heck do i get out over water wearing a leg cast from toe to thigh? answer, you don't. Was too funny when a good sportsman asked me how long I was going to sit in that boat? Well, he pulled me out. I drug my **** *** home never to go again for 3 more weeks. Cabin fever at its best.

Now that's funny. I have had strangers pull my truck up the ramp also and I wasn't wearing a cast.

I saw the ezeestep online. Looks interesting but the trailer tongue is already pretty low. I can't have any step hanging down below the trailer, it will get caught on everything.

The lake near my house is the reserve water supply for Little Rock, AR. They allow boating but no wading or swimming. You're not supposed to be in a boat smaller than 14 ft. Most of the time there's no one around to give you a ticket. However, spend enough time on the water and you'll bump into someone "official" looking to issue a ticket. There are other lakes but this one is 20 minutes from the house.

I might take the trailer to a welding shop and see if they can build me aluminum steps.

Just Duct tape a 4ft ladder to the tongue!

you can run a boat but not get in the water? What kind of crazy rule is that? I mean that is about as stupid as stuff from FWC and gulf council.
