IRMA-GEDDON

With all the news being about Hurricane Irma, I just wanted to take a moment and wish you all to be safe regardless of whether you are evacuating or hunkering down like me. I'm sure everyone has a plan for securing their homes and vehicles, but remember to secure your kayaks! If they can't fit in the house, I remember someone filling their kayak with water from the hose last hurricane to weigh it down and also chaining it to a tree. Don't bother with tarps/kayak-covers as they will just catch the wind and help the storm lift your kayak/canoe and toss it about like a rag-doll.

On a lighter note, if you had any successful pre-hurricane fishing sessions, go ahead and share them
I got a nice kingfish and about four almacos (only kept one) on Sunday out of Pompano Beach. Waves were less than a foot, current was slow, and the bite was deep: everything was on vertical jigs, live bait didn't even get touched. Live bait bite might have been different if I had a downrigger though.

Be safe y'all

    Best of luck to all.
Have a plan, prepare for the worse, leave to north of Orlando if you can.
    Property can be replaced.
Remember to have extra water and food for your pets. Don't be the A hole in Houston who chained his dog to a tree and left.

Best of luck to all on the East coast at this point. Hunkering down in SW FL for now.

Interestingly the forecast shifted west, so be careful my Naples and Marco Island people; Tampa get ready!

Made it through without damage to the house. Kayaks and cars were packed up in the garage and sustained no damage. I'm very grateful.
If I wasn't headed to Orlando this weekend, I'd be planning to go fishing this weekend!

Good news...now just need to get the power back so we can stop sweating and maybe think about charging batteries to go fishing :)
